Navàs is a municipality of 6,103 inhabitants in the province of Barcelona, with a main centre and a vast territorial area of countryside. In recent years, the City Council has initiated various actions in the area of food sovereignty. These actions have now been grouped together and extended to give rise to the Navàs SA project, a project that involves the coordinated work of all the City Council departments.
Navàs SA is a global project that seeks to influence citizens from all walks of life. It involves producers, processors, restaurateurs, traders and the general public. The aim is to stimulate the notion of the local economy, one that is linked to the agro-ecological sector. It seeks to recover traditional lands, crops and landscapes and ensure youth rejuvenation in rural areas, while at the same time promoting actions from the schools, equipment and services of the municipality to raise awareness and guarantee a healthy and environmentally friendly diet and to respond to food poverty.
To achieve these objectives, some activities are carried out. These include organizing markets, training workshops, lobbying for the creation of the Land Bank, promoting school gardens, distributing food thanks to the Solidarity Table to tackle food poverty, promoting the urban vegetable garden of Navàs etc.
