Agroecopolis is a young, grassroots non-profit organisation. It is the Hellenic Network for Agroecology, Food Sovereignty and Access To Land, and the product of many years of collaboration with a variety of formal and informal groups, collectives and individuals working in these areas. It came from the need for a formal entity to support our goals, provide access to resources, give voice to small, agroecological farmers, and strengthen the Greek movement. There is high priority for this work to continue, especially as the effects of the ongoing crisis are becoming harsher, affecting more people, and threatening ownership, access to, and management of Greece’s natural resources, and our commons.
Agroecopolis is the focal point for the Food Sovereignty and Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) European movements in Greece and for the Mediterranean network for Local Based Solidarity Partnerships. Our director, Jenny Gkiougki, is a member of the European CSA Research Group, and the European steering committee of URGENCI -the global CSA network.
