Bolivia has historically depended on vegetable seeds from other countries, whose products enter the country legally through trade in agricultural inputs and via smuggling from neighboring countries.
By the 80s, the country produced, in a traditional way (own seed) by small producers; carrot and onion seeds, in a quantity that did not exceed 5% of the national demand in both species.
The National Center for Vegetable Seed Production (CNPSH), began its activities in April 1989.
