The Drôme Valley in France has 54,000 inhabitants in 102 villages and small towns. The Biovallée project was born in 2009, anchored on three axes:
Reinforcing eco-activities
Enhancing the value of existing bio-resources
Being a school territory with a national dimension
Today, 40% of farms are organic, compared to 8% nationally, and one worker in five is integrated into a social and solidarity economy structure, twice as many as in the rest of the Rhône-Alpes region, to which the valley belongs.
The 204 members of the association work with regional and national governments to plan and implement alternative energy production systems, conversion to organic farming, waste reduction, etc.
