The Sub-department for Agriculture, Fishing and Food Policy for the Basque Country, in conjunction with the three District Councils: HAZI, Elika and Eudel, published a Guide on Organising Local Markets and Fairs. The guide includes information on how to properly organise markets and fairs and provides information on sales infrastructure. It also includes information and the requisite standards and conditions for food hygiene and how to present produce. The aim of the guide is to provide town councils and local bodies with all the tools they need to properly organise and manage commercial activities.
The guide is another step in the Sub-Department for Agriculture, Fishing and Food Policy's multi-channel strategy to strengthen short circuit sales channels and improve the marketing of the local and high-quality produce from the rural Basque Country. It acts as a starting point to stimulate local markets and fairs, which will be revived via a series of actions that raise awareness about the sector and inform local people and producers about the power of direct sales and the benefits it brings to society.
