2012
Igitie, meaning ‘sickle’ in Basque, is an Association of Agroecological Basque Peasants from Arratia. Everything started with the Nekasare experience, where producers in the region came together and discussed the need to work together at the local level.
In summer 2012, five people met at the first meeting in the Ekomuseo in Artea. In 2014, 20 producers met once a month in the Kultur Etxea in Igorre.
They produce a wide variety of products, including fruit, vegetables, pork, goat, chicken, eggs, honey and cakes.
Igitie works in four areas: land, school canteens, training and product sales. They organise a market in the main square in Igorre every Saturday to sell products.
