Jangurie is an initiative that was set up by all of the schools in Urdaibai in an effort to achieve a sustainable, healthy and local-based school canteen model. The initiative was presented on 18 November 2017 in Gernika-Lumo.
Although the reality of each school is different, they have identified that their needs and objectives are similar and they therefore decided to join forces.
They advocate for a stronger local economy and healthy, sustainable, educational school canteens that use local products. The new school canteen model seeks to safeguard and improve, wherever possible, the working conditions of employees.
The main objectives of Janguarie are as follows:
1. Children must eat a healthy diet. Local, seasonal and high-quality food.
2. Revive the region's primary sector. Advocate for the local economy. Revive the primary sector and ensure that Baserritarras have decent living conditions
3. Make our region sustainable. Natural food in school canteens, with the goal of including more organic food.
Moreover, they call for public schools to be free to choose their own school canteen model, create new kitchens and maintain existing ones.
