La Osa is a consumer cooperative located in Madrid that was born with the intention of serving as a driving force for the creation of a cooperative and participative supermarket, non-profit and managed by its members.
It is the evolution of a smaller project that emerged in the centre of Madrid, 2decológico, from which it absorbs its experience and values to share them with a greater number of people who are concerned with controlling their own food and helping to improve the value chain through the Social and Solidarity Economy.
The members contribute with 100 euros of social capital and 3 hours of volunteer work per month.
This project has been set up with the help and advice of the MARES project and, specifically, its Sea of Food , from Madrid City Council. El Mar de Alimentación of the MARES project in Madrid coordinated a tour of screenings of the documentary "Food Coop" in various districts of the city, which reached thousands of people. Once the territory was shaken up, many people asked themselves: what if we dare to ride one here?
The collective reflections began to be channelled through a Practice-Oriented Learning Community (PLC), an innovative methodology promoted by MARES. In it, the financial viability, the business plans and even the development strategies were studied with different promotion teams. From there, three projects were born: LA OSA (Ventilla), SUPERCOOP (Lavapiés) and BIOLIBERE (Getafe) These three initiatives are immersed in a membership campaign to bring together many people and make the project viable.
