Cadiz City Council, in its commitment to reduce the socio-environmental impact of the city's energy metabolism, fight climate change and promote a sustainable and democratic energy model in Cadiz, organised the 'I Conference on Energy Transition' in November 2015. Out of this meeting, a space for permanent citizen participation was born, where citizens, organisations and the city council collaborate in shaping the city's energy future.
This space develops proposals that are transferred to the city council and the semi-public energy company Eléctrica de Cádiz for implementation and activities that are carried out directly by the participants.
Since its launch at the end of 2015, the Cadiz Energy Transition Committee has promoted initiatives such as: the celebration of World Energy Efficiency Day (March 5, 2016), Sustainable Energy Week (2017 and 2018), the change of Cádiz Electrica's energy certification and the promotion of savings and renewable energies in the city.
In this space, free workshops on domestic energy saving and efficiency and optimisation of electricity bills were given by the committee's volunteers. This was done in collaboration with associations in Cadiz. Additionally, the Mobility Week was held with various leisure and educational activities and the First Social Pulse on Energy in the City of Cadiz was prepared.
The actions to be developed by the Cadiz Energy Transition Committee are decided democratically in the meetings that take place every two weeks.
