In Lurgintza (cooperative for the management of agriculture and livestock in Gipuzkoa) and Biolur (association of livestock and agriculture in Gipuzkoa), within the joint agreement we have, we propose the possibility of launching a pilot project to diagnose and improve energy.
In this analysis, through Nafarkoop (cooperative for the generation of renewable energy), we will have the knowledge and experience of the Goiener group for the technical work to be carried out in each baserri. Audits will be carried out in each house, with the aim of reducing the cost of energy and improving efficiency, but we have also analyzed the possibilities of generating energy with our own resources, always with the aim of deepening autonomy.
Although this experience will be carried out in 5 ecological projects for the transformation of sheep's and cow's milk in Gipuzkoa, it is intended to be useful for other baserris in the Basque Country. The study will serve to obtain various economic data, among them to know the investments needed to produce sustainable energy, but also to know the self-sufficiency that would be achieved by using them.
Nevertheless, it will not only be an economic assessment. We want to know and assess the impact that a similar process can have on the social, political and ecological dimensions, on a project and on the sector. For this, we will have the help of Mirene Begiristain, researcher at the UPV/EHU on local food systems.
It has been a collaborative project, and in addition to the agents mentioned, it will be developed thanks to the financial support of LANDAOLA (Federation of Rural Development Associations of Gipuzkoa) and ENEEK (Basque Council of Ecological Agriculture and Food).
