The Larrabetzu school canteen is benchmark model for a canteen that is self-managed by the Parents Association and under agroecological principles. The Parents Associations creates the menus, buys the ingredients and hires staff, and has established a close relationship with local producers
Objectives
- Health and Nutrition: traditional cooking and a balanced diet using local and seasonal foods that, wherever possible, are agroecological.
-Economic responsibility: boost the primary sector and its trade by prioritising people in the town when hiring new staff.
-Incorporate education: educate children about good eating practices. The importance of food, boosting the local economy, living together, reducing waste by using leftovers, the school garden etc.
