The municipality of Amurrio, as a signatory of the Mayors' Pact, has drawn up an Action Plan for Sustainable Energy (PAES), with a series of initiatives to reduce the municipality's greenhouse gas emissions by more than 20% by 2020, compared to the so-called "base year" which in the case of Amurrio is 2006.
The plan that is currently in force has a 2010 timeframe; but the following plan is currently being drawn up, with a 2020 timeframe.
In this plan, as far as the areas of this website are concerned, strategic lines are established in relation to renewable energies, energy efficiency and waste management.
- Energy efficiency: replacing lighting with a more efficient one, replacing equipment with high-efficiency equipment (e.g. boilers), improving insulation and including energy clauses in public procurement processes.
- Renewable energies: installation of biomass boilers in municipal buildings, installation of biomass and geothermal energy in new buildings, and promoting the use of roofs for solar panels.
- Waste: improvement of selective collection and courses on composting in residential areas.
