In 2018, a group of people committed to food, the environment and the neighborhood we live in, began working on an idea that came from other cities and that allowed them to propose a place where they could decide on the type of food they wanted to eat according to considerations related to health, environmental impact, sustainability and fair trade.
At that time they discovered that there were more people with the same concerns which led them to form the Grupo Motor . This supermarket is building its identity on the cooperative model and will be located in the Lavapiés neighborhood. A part of the work will be done by the cooperative members with only 3 hours per month. Special attention will be paid to both the origin of the food and the products and their processing or production; in which, in addition, those who produce them may also be partners and, in which packaging, recycling, waste and residues will also be taken into account.
This project has been set up with the help and advice of the MARES project and, specifically, its Sea of Food , from Madrid City Council. El Mar de Alimentación of the MARES project in Madrid coordinated a tour of screenings of the documentary "Food Coop" in various districts of the city, which reached thousands of people. Once the territory was shaken up, many people asked themselves: what if we dare to ride one here?
The collective reflections began to be channelled through a Practice-Oriented Learning Community (PLC), an innovative methodology promoted by MARES. In it, the financial viability, the business plans and even the development strategies were studied with different promotion teams. From there, three projects were born: LA OSA (Ventilla), SUPERCOOP (Lavapiés) and BIOLIBERE (Getafe) These three initiatives are immersed in a membership campaign to bring together many people and make the project viable.
